Roper Mountain Road Improvements

Project Information

Description

  • Widen to 5 lanes with curb, gutter, sidewalks, and bike lanes from approximately Roper Mountain Road Extension to Blacks Drive
  • 3 lanes for the remainder of the corridor to I-85
  • Project was bundled with the Roper Mountain Road Extension Improvements Project during preliminary engineering and construction

Purpose

  • To increase capacity and accommodate existing and future traffic congestion
  • To improve left turn movements

Need

  • Growth in the area has caused traffic increases on the corridor
  • Current lane configuration causes traffic halts and slow downs when someone makes a left turn

Status

  • Under construction
  • 9 month utility relocation window began on 9/2/2020
  • Duke is relocating the overhead lines
  • AT&T is relocating their underground lines
  • Metro Sewer is actively relocating utilities
