Horizon2040 is the latest update to the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP).  Every Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is required to have a LRTP that is reviewed and updated over time. GPATS reviews the LRTP every five years and updates it every ten.  Click here to learn more about the current GPATS Long Range Transportation Plan.

This particular update began with a kick-off meeting on September 7, 2016.  Since then, we held eight sub-regional meetings in October, 2016 to hear everyone’s wants and needs.  We followed those up with nine more in May and June of 2017 to make sure we were on the right track.  Additionally, to reach a broader audience, we hosted an online MetroQuest survey and mailed out a statistically valid survey.  We took what we heard and worked with it to finalize our list of project recommendations and scheduled a final public meeting on August 29, 2017.  The Horizon2040 Plan was adopted in November 2017.  We are pleased to announce that the FINAL Horizon2040 Long-Range Transportation Plan is now available for your viewing to the left!

Thank you everyone who participated in this process.  Below you can also find reports from our first set of public meetings, summaries of results from the surveys we sent out, the original State of the Region Report, and the documents from our final public meeting in August.  Direct any comments or concerns by emailing GPATS at or call GPATS Staff at (864) 467-7174.

On October 18, 2017, Keith Brockington with GPATS and Allison Fluitt with Kimley-Horn and Associates presented to the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) at their national conference in Savannah.  The topic of the session was public engagement, and GPATS participated alongside other presenters such as the Portland, OR and Ft. Lauderdale, FL MPOs.  Keith and Allison spoke about the process taken for the Horizon2040 Long-Range Transportation Plan.  See a video of the presentation here!
